In July 2024, Governor Phil Murphy signed into law the New Jersey Real Estate Consumer Protection Enhancement Act, a transformative piece of legislation aimed at increasing transparency and consumer protection in real estate transactions. Effective as of August 1, 2024, the Act addresses concerns brought to light by the October 2023 Missouri federal jury decision against the National Association of Realtors and other real estate companies, which highlighted excessive commission fees charged to home sellers.
